Traditions during the holiday season are my favorite. I love creating memories with HJ and making moments of connections with those we love. This past weekend, HJ and I helped welcome Santa to town with a half the town on Main Street. It is a tradition that Santa comes to town and the children follow his sleigh to the tree lighting, followed by fireworks. Afterwards, I invited some neighbors over to warm up and enjoy a yummy, seasonal dessert.
I made average, everyday brownies, but it was the topping that was special. Peppermint Icing topped with crushed candy canes. It tastes like Christmas.
To make, I mixed up 1 and a half ounces of softened cream cheese, 2/3 cup powdered sugar, and Nestle Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer (to a good icing like consistency). The result? A yummy, peppermint icing that paired perfectly with the brownies.
I couldn’t resist testing one out before the neighbors stopped by. Adding in the flavored coffee, instead of plain milk, gave the frosting a special little taste that wasn’t too powerful.
The kids all loved the crushed candy canes on top.
The icing isn’t just for brownies. It would taste great over cookies, cake, French toast… or as I discovered, Cinnamon Rolls.
I love being able to take something as easy and simple as cinnamon rolls in a can and adding my own special touch for the holidays. These would be perfect for Christmas morning.
How are you creating moments of connection with your loved ones this holiday season?
