Those who know me are aware that I like to have things organized and just so.  Today, I wanted to share a few kid’s closet tips that I use at my house.  It makes it easy to switch up the seasons and store the clothing that is too small.

I recently pulled out all the clothing HJ has yet to wear.  A lot of it is stuff I picked up at garage sales or at end of season sales (I got 16 pieces for $34 at Crazy 8 for next summer!).  Here is the pile I needed to organize:new2

Yeah, I know.2345

I organized the clothes into piles (long-sleeve 5T, long sleeve 4, short-sleeve small, short sleeve 5T, etc).  Then, I started putting them away.  I hung up the long-sleeve shirts that HJ will be wearing this fall, and out his pants in the dresser.  In his closet, I have a plastic container with 3 drawers.  I separated the clothes he has yet to grow into in the drawers.  That way, when he is ready for the size, I just have to pull it out of the drawer.

I also have a large bin in the closet.  As soon as an article of clothing is too small, I throw it in the bin.  When the bin is full, I just put it into storage.  This makes it super simple to keep on top of the organization!

What closet organization tips do you use?

4 Thoughts on “Organizing a Kid’s Closet

  1. I love this! I organize my daughter’s clothes by color in her closet, and then she has a pants drawer and a “grubby clothes” drawer. I’ve told her when she puts something on and it’s too small, put it on the washing machine, and I’ll stick it in our give-away box! That way we stay on top of the issue!!

  2. This is great! How about you come do my closet..btw when are we going to see the Princesses?!?! jk
